Monarch Industrial Products Filters and Strainers

Temporary Cone Strainer

Model:
MTC
Application:
Liquid and Gas Filtration

We fabricate Temporary Cone Strainers or Witches Hat Strainers using heavy gauge stainless steel perforated metal. We offer standard and custom sizes to suit most flange types and applications.

Temporary cone strainers can be fabricated to almost any length in 304 or 316 Stainless Steel. Standard lengths are 100% and 150% open area ratio. This refers to the open area of the cone or basket to the cross section of the inlet pipe. The length will vary depending on the perforation size and if a mesh liner is fitted.

Temporary cone strainers can be supplied with mesh lining on the inside or outside of the cone depending upon flow direction.

Special reinforcing rings and supports can be installed to maintain integrity of the cone or basket for heavy load applications where the differential pressure will exceed 20-30 psi.

The schedule number on pipe products relates to the thickness of the wall on the pipe. As the number increases, the thicker the wall thickness becomes.

When requesting a quotation please specify the pipe schedule being used. This in important to ensure there is sufficient clearance at the base of the Cone Strainer.

One of the most important design considerations when purchasing a cone strainer is specifying the perforation or mesh size of the straining element.

In general, screen openings should be approximately one-half the diameter of the largest allowable particle. The largest allowable particle is defined as the size of particle that can pass through downstream equipment without causing damage.

A critical consideration when sizing a cone strainer is the amount of free open area. This is the ratio of the open area through the strainer screen to the cross sectional area of the pipe.

We can size a cone strainer to match your minimum Open Area Ratio requirement and provide a data sheet and submittal drawing for consideration.

Commonly requested ratios include: >100%, >150%, >200%, >250%, >300%
